How to use Baking Soda as an Odor Remover
Baking Soda can be used as a natural remedy to remove unwanted odors. Baking soda has been around for quite awhile and should be in every household for a number of reasons. Listed below are a few suggestions for using baking soda as an odor remover.
· It removes the smell of vomit out of carpet, car seats and mattresses. Make sure you have scrubbed up the area that is soiled with some ammonia or other disinfectant and allow it to dry completely before applying the soda. Let it sit up to 48 hours before vacuuming. You can repeat this process as many times as needed to make sure the odor is removed. Most of the time you will not need to call a carpet steam cleaning service or rent a carpet cleaning machine.
· I love to use baking soda in laundry. It really freshens up your clothes and aids your detergent in whitening your whites and brightening your lights and coloreds. It doesnt shrink or fade your clothing either. I noticed it made my clothes feel softer and I did not use any fabric softener. What a bonus!
· It works as a freshener for the refrigerator too. As long as I can remember growing up as a kid there was always a box of baking soda in the fridge. Today there is one in my own fridge. It helps with the smell of certain strong foods such as onions, lamb and fish. I always change my box out with a new box every 2 to 3 months. If your fridge smells are stronger than normal I suggest changing it every 30 days.
· Lately my bathroom drain has had a bad smell. I tried bleach and other disinfectants and it took it away for awhile but eventually came back. So one day I dumped a small box of baking soda down the drain and let it sit for 2 days. When I showered the smell was gone and it did not come back. No need to call the plumber. I saved money and time by using baking soda. No washing, scrubbing or wiping was ever involved.
